Just got called out for my lazy coax terminations

A senior tech named Ray watched me rush a connector on a job in Tempe and said, 'You're leaving a quarter inch of braid exposed, kid. That's a moisture wick waiting to happen.' I started using his method of trimming the jacket back exactly 3/8 of an inch and folding the braid before crimping. Has anyone else had a simple critique that fixed a bad habit?

I used to think that was fine, but @schmidt.kim is right about how small details matter.

Wait, a quarter inch of exposed braid? That's crazy... I can't believe anyone would let that slide. @schmidt.kim is totally right about details, that's basically an open door for water to ruin everything. Ray's method sounds like it saves a ton of future headaches.

My old boss caught me leaving a 3/8-inch gap on a paint line once... said it looked like a toddler did it.
