Pack a big batch of chili on those marathon days... it holds up really well and fills you up. I throw in some cornbread on the side if I have time to bake. The thermos is a game changer for keeping things hot, especially when you're moving non-stop. Sometimes I just need something that sticks to my ribs until I can finally sit down. Those back-to-back shifts are no joke.

Remember to preheat the thermos with boiling water before you fill it. That extra step buys you a couple more hours of real heat, not just warmth. I've had beef stew still steaming at the end of a long, cold hike because of that trick. It makes all the difference when you're stuck outside all day.
