Hot take: my old foreman said skip the cable lube on interior pulls, and now I know he was wrong
Back when I started pulling coax in Charlotte around 2011, my foreman Ray told me to skip the lube on any pull under 40 feet, said it just made a mess and wasted time. I believed him for almost 3 years and cussed every tight corner in those old brick houses on the south side. Last month I ran 6 drops in a 1920s craftsman with two 90 degree bends and said forget it, grabbed the yellow bottle and used it anyway. Each pull slid like butter and I finished 45 minutes early, which never happens. Ray meant well but he learned on new construction with wide stud bays, not these old plaster walls stuffed with fire blocks. I am not saying soak every run, but dry pulling short interior runs is not the flex I thought it was. What do you all do on old plaster walls, lube every time or only when it hangs up?
