Hit 300 installs this year and my knees finally told me to change something
I was logging my jobs last Friday night and noticed I crossed 300 installs since January. That number caught me off guard because I figured I was somewhere around 200, tops. Most of those were repeat calls at apartments in the same three complexes off Highway 9, so there was a lot of up and down ladders and crawling through attics. My right knee has been popping since about job 250 and I kept telling myself it was nothing. Last week I finally bought a decent pair of knee pads and a folding step stool instead of balancing on the customer's kitchen chair. The stool cost me $60 and I should have bought it after job 50, not job 300. If you do mostly residential work, what do you keep in the van for the ladder and attic stuff that saves your body?
Wearing knee pads and dragging a stool around just makes you slow on the clock and the customer notices, and popping knees at 300 jobs is your body's way of saying take a break, not buy more gear.
