Heard a homeowner say “just drill anywhere” and I had to stop myself

Last week I was installing a new cable drop for a family in Oakwood. The homeowner kept pointing at random spots on the wall saying “just drill anywhere, I don’t care.” I told them about hidden wires and pipes but they waved me off. After I found a stud with my detector and ran the line clean, they admitted their last guy did drill into a water pipe. Took that guy three hours and a drywall patch to fix it. How do you all handle customers who don’t want to listen about safety basics?

That story about drilling into a water pipe reminds me of a friend who does cable work. He had a customer insist on drilling directly above an outlet, and sure enough, he hit a live wire that knocked the power out for the whole floor. Now he tells every homeowner about the risks before he even opens his tool bag.
