A simple coax fitting trick I learned from an old timer in Cleveland
I keep seeing new guys strip the jacket back way too far, leaving the braid exposed and prone to snagging on walls. This happened to me last week on a tricky attic run, and I had to redo the whole fitting. How much jacket do you leave past the collar before you crimp?

Leave about an eighth of an inch of jacket past the collar. That old timer trick is wrong. You want the crimp to grab the jacket, not just the braid. If the jacket is too short, the fitting pulls off too easy. I learned this the hard way on a service call. A proper crimp needs to bite into that outer plastic.

Honestly I read a whole forum thread about this exact thing last year. The general rule was to leave enough jacket so the crimp ring sits over it, but not so much that it bunches up. Tbh if you cut it flush with the collar, you're only crimping onto the braid and that's asking for trouble. I saw pictures of fittings that pulled right off because of that. You need that plastic under the crimp for a solid grip.
