Watching a friend build a cabinet and they didn't account for the hinge overlay

He was making a face frame for a 3/4 overlay hinge but cut the frame opening the same size as the box. Now the doors won't close right. I see this a lot with people new to frameless builds. How do you guys calculate your overlay, especially with those Blum 110 degree hinges?

Fair enough, but I think it's a stretch to say messing up is the best teacher. Sometimes learning from other people's mistakes is way less painful and just as effective. Let's not pretend a faceplant is the only way to figure out you should tie your shoes.

Honestly @nina834, what if that mistake is actually the best way to learn the hard way? I've seen people who mess up early remember the lesson forever. They often end up more careful than anyone who got it right the first time.
