Unpopular opinion: prefinished ply is worth the extra $30 a sheet
Finished a set of maple uppers for a kitchen in Boise last month and used prefinished ply for the boxes for the first time. Just wiped the edges with a damp rag and sprayed the faces, done in an afternoon instead of two days of sanding and sealing. My old boss at the shop on 3rd always said prefinished was cheating and I believed him for 6 years. Anyone here made the switch for good, or do you still finish your own boxes?

Your old boss calling it cheating is the fun part, since the customer only sees the finished door anyway. Paying 30 bucks to skip two days of sanding and sealing is a trade I would make every single time. My last three sets of boxes have all been prefinished and I am not going back.
