Thought pocket screws were fine for face frames until I tried dowels on a maple vanity
I built face frames with pocket screws for years because they were fast and I could clamp and shoot in a minute. A guy at a shop in Grand Rapids showed me his dowel jig setup on a maple vanity and the joints came out dead flat with no creep after glue up. My pocket screw frames always shifted a hair when I tightened the clamp, and I was always filling and sanding those little dimples. After doing 6 frames with dowels I'm not going back for anything that gets a clear finish. Anyone here still running pocket screws on painted frames only, or did you switch everything over?
