Talked to a kitchen designer in Nashville, now I'm questioning everything

I been building cabinets for 8 years and always thought my door alignments were spot on. This kitchen designer, she came into my shop last week to check on a job we're doing for a remodel in East Nashville. She just casually ran her hand along one of my inset doors and asked if I'd ever tried shimming the hinges from the back instead of adjusting the cups. I laughed it off, said no, been doing it this way forever. But out of curiosity I tried it on a test piece that night, and the difference in the reveal was crazy. It's so much cleaner, plus it cuts my adjustment time by a third on each door. Now I'm sitting here wondering how many other little tricks I've been missing because I got stuck in my routine. Has anyone else had a total stranger drop a tip that flipped your whole process? And how do you keep yourself open to that when you're used to doing it your way for years?
