Old timer at the lumber yard told me to stop using pocket holes for face frames
He just said "you ain't building a bookshelf, son" and walked off. Stung at first but he was right. Switched to glue and biscuits for face frames and my joints stopped shifting after a season of humidity changes. Took me about 6 months to really get the hang of clamping it right. Anybody else get handed a reality check like that by some random guy?

Old timers usually got a reason for every little thing they say, good advice right there.

Honestly I've noticed the same thing. It's like older folks have seen enough cycles of life to know what actually matters and what's just noise. They aren't trying to impress anyone with big words or the latest trends, they just tell you what works from experience. Ngl I think a lot of young people miss out by not listening more. There's a quiet wisdom in stuff that's been around a long time and still holds up.
