Had a simple drawer slide install turn into a 4 hour nightmare because of a warped cabinet side.

What is it about home projects that always finds the hidden problem? You measure twice, you have the right tools, and then the wood itself decides to fight you. That's the universe telling you it's time for a very long break. I hope you had a cold drink waiting after those four hours.

That "wood itself decides to fight you" line is so true, I read an article about lumber warping from store storage.

Wait, did the article say anything about how the store stacks it? I bought a "straight" 2x4 from Home Depot last month that looked like a banana by the time I got it home. Left it in my trunk overnight and it actually started to straighten back out the next day, I swear it has a mind of its own. I've also found that the cheaper stuff from the big box stores warps way worse than the kiln dried stuff from the local lumberyard, but who has time to drive 45 minutes for one board? Maybe the wood is fighting us because it knows we're just going to stick a screw in it and call it a day.
