Cabinet shop in Boise told me to stop sanding end grain past 180 and my glue lines got better
I was sanding end grain up to 220 on some maple face frames for a kitchen job in Boise and the glue joints kept showing hairline gaps after finish, so I asked the old timer who runs the shop and he told me to stop at 180 because burnished end grain won't take glue. I tried it on the next set of frames, just 180 then glue up, and those joints came out tight with no visible seam under stain. Has anyone else been taught a grit limit for end grain or is this something you just figure out by ruining a few doors first?
