Appreciation post: the 68 year old finisher in Tulsa who told me to slow my glue ups down
I was at a shop in Tulsa picking up some walnut and watched this old finisher named Ray spread glue on a mortise and tenon with a brush instead of a bottle, taking maybe 20 seconds longer than I would have. When I asked why, he said "the wood tells you when it's ready, you don't tell it," and then showed me a joint he'd opened after 30 years that was still tight. How many of you have switched to brushing your glue instead of squeezing it straight from the bottle, and did it actually make a difference on long grain joints?
