Appreciation post: the 60 year old bench at the county fair barn that shames most new ones
I was at the Warren County fairgrounds last weekend and the demo barn there still has a workbench from the 1960s, and the joints on that thing are tighter than anything I've built in the last 5 years. Everybody keeps pushing the new pocket screw jigs and domino setups, but that old bench was built with hand cut joinery and it hasn't racked a bit in six decades of kids leaning on it. What's the oldest bench you all still trust with real work on it?
