PSA: Dropped $180 on a custom mech keyboard with 'silent' switches and I can barely type on it
Bought a Keychron Q1 about 8 weeks back because everyone online swore the Gateron Silent Browns were the perfect quiet switch with a nice soft bump. Got it, typed on it for maybe 3 days, and the sound is this dull mushy thud like tapping a pencil eraser on a book. I wanted that crisp marbly clack, not a wet sock noise, and now the board sits in a drawer while I'm back on my old $40 Logitech. The worst part is I also grabbed a $60 set of lube and films trying to 'fix' the feel, which did basically nothing. So I'm out around $240 total and still hunting for that perfect click. Has anyone actually found a switch that sounds satisfying but won't wake up the whole house at 6am?

That "wet sock noise" line made me laugh because I know it too well. Silent switches always trade the clack for a mushy thud, and no amount of lube will bring the sound back. So the real move is skip silent switches and just get a board with a softer case and some foam, which cuts the noise down a bit but keeps that nice pop.
