Unpopular opinion: that $35 metal volume knob I put on my desk controller was the biggest waste of money
I bought one of those fancy machined aluminum volume knobs for my little desktop audio setup back in March, thinking it would feel way better than the tiny plastic wheel on my DAC. By the time shipping and the adapter cable were added up, I was out about $48, and the thing has this gritty drag to it that actually feels worse than the stock wheel. I kept telling myself it just needed to break in, so I gave it 4 weeks of daily use and it never got smoother. The real issue is the detents are way too stiff, so fine volume changes are basically impossible and I end up reaching for the mouse anyway. I finally pulled it off last Sunday and the stock knob went back on in about 30 seconds, and honestly the plastic wheel feels better because it's lighter. Has anyone found a knob with soft detents or no clicks at all that doesn't cost half a day's pay? I'm not spending another dime until I can actually spin one in person.
