Vent: Just read a USDA report on ground beef contamination rates
I was looking up some food safety guidelines last week and found a 2023 USDA report. It said about 1 in every 20 samples of ground beef they tested had traces of E. coli. That's way higher than I thought it would be for commercial product. It really made me double-check our own grind logs and cleaning schedule. Has anyone else reviewed their process lately because of new data?

Check the report again, that 1 in 20 number is for all beef trimmings, not finished ground beef. The contamination rate for actual packaged ground beef was lower. Still a good wake-up call to review your process, but the risk isn't quite as high as the post makes it sound. The data gets mixed up a lot. You have to read past the headline summary.
