Just realized my $12 fish scaler beats my $60 deba on small trout
I have been breaking down 10 to 12 inch trout at my station using my fancy deba knife for about 6 months, and it always felt like I was fighting the spine on the little ones. Last week I grabbed a cheap $12 fish scaler with that serrated edge just to scrape some scales off, and on a whim I ran it down the backbone instead. The bones popped right out clean in one pass and I was done in half the time with way less waste. Curious if anyone else has switched to a scaler or spoon for small fish breakdown, or am I just late to something everyone already knows?
