Hot take: I tried to make my own sausage casings from a pig bladder
I got the idea from a really old book at the library, but after cleaning it for like 2 hours and stuffing it, the whole thing burst open on the first link. Has anyone here actually pulled this off without making a huge mess?

Lee_barnes70 is overcomplicating it with the brine talk. That old book probably had it right the first time, and the real issue is using too much force when you link them. A gentle touch matters more than any soak.

What kind of book was it? Some of those old farm manuals skip crucial steps because they assumed you already knew them. Did you soak the bladder in a salt brine or vinegar solution to make it more elastic before stuffing? A dry bladder will tear almost every time.

Nah, Ray's got it. Soaking just makes the whole thing a slippery mess. You need that dry grip to control the link twist. The manual said to use a light hand, not a wet one. Too much moisture and the casing won't hold its shape right.
