Can we talk about that cow I messed up at the county fair demo in October?

I was doing a live breakdown in front of 40 people and my knife slipped on the sirloin because I didn't check the steeling rod first, has anyone else learned a tough lesson from a public demo gone wrong?

Ngl that's rough and I feel for you, public mess ups are the worst because you can feel everyone's eyes on you. Honestly it haunts you way more than it haunts the crowd though, they probably forgot about it five minutes later while you're still replaying it in your head at 3am. Tbh I think learning the hard way in front of people is how you really lock in the lesson, like you'll never skip checking your gear again after that. It sucks in the moment but it makes you sharper in the long run.

And that's exactly the kind of thing that sticks with you way longer than it should. I had a similar moment at a small butchering class where I fumbled the chuck roll and ended up with a jagged mess on the counter, just because I was rushing to set up. Now I always double check my tools before anyone shows up, even if it makes me look a little paranoid.
