Switched to a framing square for cabinet layouts after 5 years of winging it

I always just used a tape measure and marked things quick, but a cabinetmaker buddy showed me how a framing square keeps everything square from the start and now I'm not fighting gaps on every door install. Has anyone else found a tool they ignored forever that made a huge difference?

Wait, you were installing doors without checking square first? That's wild, how'd you not lose your mind with all the gaps?

@king.dakota honestly that's the real question here. Did you end up having to shave down every single door or just live with the gaps and hope nobody noticed?
