Spent 3 weekends rebuilding a pergola that collapsed after 2 storms
Last month I poured concrete footings and built this heavy timber pergola in my backyard in Austin. A microburst hit last Tuesday and it twisted the whole frame like a pretzel. Why do I keep thinking I can DIY heavy outdoor structures without an engineer looking at the plans first?

Had a buddy who built a deck in his backyard last spring. A single storm took out two of the support posts and he spent his whole vacation fixing it.
