Showerthought: I hit 50 custom cabinet builds this month
Started in my garage ten years ago with a borrowed miter saw, just making simple boxes. The 50th job was a full kitchen for a couple in Portland, and seeing it all installed made me realize how much the craft has changed, with more people wanting integrated tech now. What's one old school technique you still use that newer builders seem to skip?

Used to think hand sanding was a waste of time until I saw how it catches light differently. @ryan_stone45 is right about old tools needing a careful touch, and that same patience applies here. Now I never skip that final pass by hand.

My dad's 1980s dovetail jig, every single time.

Oh man, @jasonl84, that hits home. Those old jigs are tanks, built to last forever but they can be so stubborn. My uncle had one and you had to set it up just right or the cuts were a mess. They don't make stuff with that kind of heavy metal anymore, for better and worse.
