My mentor's 3-2-1 rule for stair stringers... wish I listened sooner
I was framing a set of stairs for a split-level in Columbus last fall, and my old boss kept saying "measure twice, cut once, but check the rise three times with the actual treads." I blew it off because I'd done stringers a hundred times. First set came out a half-inch off, and I had to rip them out and redo the whole landing. Now I stack the actual treads on the layout before I cut anything, takes maybe ten extra minutes. Anyone else have a habit from a mentor that felt like overkill until it saved your butt?
