I used to think all my design work needed to be done on a big screen

My friend, who does a lot of mobile-first work, kept telling me to start my wireframes on my phone. I thought he was crazy. I said my 27-inch monitor was the only way to see the full picture. Last month, I took on a project for a local food truck app. I started on my desktop as usual, but after three rounds of client changes, the layout still felt off on mobile. I finally tried my friend's advice. I spent a whole day sketching and testing the flow directly on my phone using a simple app. The difference was huge. I caught three major navigation issues I had totally missed on the big screen. Now I start every mobile project with my phone in hand. Has anyone else switched their starting point like this, and what did you find?

Honestly I still need the big screen first to see the whole layout.

I mean, is it that big of a deal? People made whole websites on tiny monitors back in the day. You can just zoom out or use a layout tool. Feels like making a problem where there isn't one.
