I finally rebuilt my portfolio site on a 12 hour flight to Tokyo
My old layout had 47 breakpoints and a 9 MB hero video, so I deleted everything mid-flight and rebuilt it with a simple grid system over Tokyo, now it loads in 2 seconds flat, anyone else hit a wall with their own portfolio files?

I love that you had 47 breakpoints and a 9 MB hero video, because that is basically the story of my whole digital life. We keep piling stuff on because each thing seems small on its own, then one day the whole thing feels heavy and slow and we can't even point to the one thing that broke it. It reminds me of my garage, honestly. I threw nothing away for years and then one Saturday I filled the truck with junk and suddenly I could park in there again. The fix was never adding something smart, it was just having the guts to cut. A flight is such a good place for that because you can't run out and grab more stuff to fix it, you just have to sit with what you have and make hard choices. I bet that 2 second load feels better than any fancy effect ever did.
