Heard a framer say he skips plastic spacers to save time...

I was at a workshop in Austin last Saturday and a guy said he's been using cardboard scraps instead of plastic spacers for 10 years, claims they're more forgiving on uneven concrete. Made me rethink all the money I spent on those little packs at the hardware store. Anyone else tried something unconventional that actually worked better?

Gotta love how we overcomplicate things with plastic junk when cardboard has been doing the job for decades, it's like the whole world forgot about paper.

My local grocery store switched from cardboard egg cartons to those clear plastic clamshells a few years back, and it drives me nuts every time I see them. I just started buying my eggs from a neighbor who keeps chickens, and she packs them in the old school cardboard cartons. Way easier to recycle, and they don't feel like they'll last forever in a landfill. Plus the cardboard holds up fine for a week or two in my fridge, so why mess with plastic? It's one of those small swaps that just makes more sense when you think about it.
