Guy at the lumber yard in Reno watched me measure twice and still cut wrong
I was building a simple 2x4 workbench last Saturday and grabbed my boards from the yard off McCarran. This older guy named Dale stood there watching me mark everything with a pencil and speed square, real careful, taking my time. I made my first cut and it was a full 1/4 inch short, so I just stared at it like it would fix itself. He laughed and said 'son, your square is on the wrong side of the line' and walked off. Turns out I'd been marking on the waste side for the whole first board and lost about 8 inches of good lumber. Now I want to know, does anyone else mark their cut line and then second guess which side the blade goes on?
