Walked into a dollar store and saw something weird with pricing
I was grabbing wrapping paper at Dollar Tree last weekend and noticed they had like 4 different price points now, not just a buck... Stood there for a minute trying to figure out if I was saving anything by buying there anymore. Has anyone else checked their store lately and felt confused about whether it's still a deal?

Honestly you gotta start checking the price per ounce or unit on those dollar store items now. Sometimes the bigger pack at Walmart is actually cheaper per item even if the upfront cost is higher. I've started keeping a little notebook in my purse with price comparisons for stuff I buy regular. Dollar Tree is still okay for greeting cards and craft supplies but the food deals are hit and miss. Just take a minute to do the math before you grab stuff off the shelf.

It really does make you wonder if inflation has finally caught up to the whole "everything's a dollar" idea. Ngl, it's like every time you turn around now, even the cheap stuff gets a little more complicated.

Has the dollar store model just become impossible to run now? I feel like the whole "everything's a dollar" thing was already dying before inflation really kicked in. They started sneaking in higher priced items a few years back, and now it's just a regular store with a misleading name. The old business plan must have been impossible to keep up once shipping costs and raw materials went through the roof. You can't sell a bag of chips for a buck when the manufacturer is charging you more than that just to buy it. It makes you wonder if we'll ever see that kind of simple pricing again, or if the dollar store is just a relic now. What do you think the next big cheap store model will be?
