Took the 1% rule too literally and it backfired

I tried that whole "save 1% of everything you earn" trick from a finance podcast last month. Put aside $8.40 from my side gig in Chicago, but then I felt so good about it I treated myself to a $9 coffee and a donut. The math is technically fine but the behavior part is a total joke. Anyone else find micro-saving just makes you spend more somewhere else?

That "$9 coffee and a donut" is so real, micro-saving totally tricks your brain into a reward.
