That time a cashier gave me the reality check I needed

I was at the grocery store last Thursday, buying some eggs and milk like always. The cashier, an older woman named Gladys, saw me pull out my credit card for a $8.50 purchase. She just shook her head and said, 'Honey, you know that swipe costs you more than the stuff in your cart?' I laughed it off, but she was right. I had been using a card for every little thing, not paying attention to the fees and interest adding up. That chat made me switch to cash for everyday buys, and I saved about $35 just last month. Has anyone else had a random stranger give them good money advice like that?

Got a similar wake up call from a mechanic once. He told me I was burning more gas than I needed to because of how I drove. Paid attention after that and started coasting more instead of hitting the gas hard, saved me like 20 bucks a month on fuel. Sometimes it takes a random person to point out the obvious stuff you're missing.

Right, because apparently driving like you're in Fast and Furious costs extra. Who knew there was a whole savings account hiding in that lead foot of mine.
