Question about the $1200 I saved fixing my own dryer vent
Last month my dryer started taking 3 cycles to dry one load of jeans. I called a repair guy and he quoted me $200 just to look at it. So I watched a Youtube video, borrowed my neighbor's shop vac, and crawled under the house in 90 degree heat for an hour. The vent was totally clogged with lint from 3 years of neglect. I cleared it out, now my dryer runs like new. Has anyone else had a ridiculous quote from a repair person that pushed you to DIY it?

Damn, that's brutal. $200 just to open the door and look? Yeah I got quoted $180 to fix a leaky toilet once. Guy wanted to replace the whole thing. Bought a $6 flapper instead. Took me ten minutes. Feels good to stick it to those price gougers. You earned that $1200 with sweat equity.

Right, because plumbers definitely never overcharge just because they can. $6 flapper beats $180 every time and it's not even close. Maybe the guy thought you were an easy mark, who knows. Nothing wrong with watching a YouTube video and saving yourself a hundred bucks. Your toilet works just as good now as it would have with his fancy replacement. That's real money in your pocket, no debate there.
