My washing machine died mid-cycle last Thursday and I had a mini meltdown

I’m standing there in my underwear at 7 AM, laundry half-soaked, and the machine just stops with a sad click. Called a repair guy who quoted me $280 just to look at it, so I YouTube’d the error code E23 instead. Turns out it was a clogged drain pump filter, fixed it in 20 minutes with a paperclip and saved the whole fee. Anyone else had a random appliance save them cash by being lazy first?

Yeah haha, you basically paid yourself $840 an hour to clean a filter. That's a better rate than most lawyers I know.

I had a buddy who did something similar with his water heater. Took him like 15 minutes to drain it and clean the sediment out, saved himself a $200 service call. He was bragging about his "hourly rate" too. Then the next week his garbage disposal clogged and he spent two hours under the sink with a wrench, got covered in slimy water, and ended up having to buy a whole new unit anyway. So his "hourly rate" averaged out to about minimum wage by the end of the month.
