My fridge died on a Sunday and I almost panicked

It happened two weeks ago, right after I got groceries. I called a repair guy who said it would be $300 just to look at it. Instead, I found a used fridge on Marketplace for $150 and my buddy helped me move it. I saved that repair cash for my car fund. Has anyone else fixed a big problem by just replacing something cheap?

Yeah the repair call-out fee is always a killer. Good move grabbing a cheap used one, that's basically the only way to win with old appliances.

Nah, the_piper is wrong on this one. A used one is just someone else's problem. Call-out fee buys you a real fix and a warranty.

Man, I gotta say I'm kinda with @the_ben here. Last time I tried the used route, I grabbed a dryer off Craigslist that worked great for three whole loads, then started sounding like a helicopter taking off. Ended up paying a call-out fee anyway to have a guy tell me it was cheaper to just buy another used one. So I guess my motto is now "buy cheap, pay twice" but hey, your mileage may vary.
