Dug into the settings on mine and found a "free trial" that was set to auto-renew... I didn't sign up for anything but there it was, $10 a month for two years. @briannguyen hits it right, spreadsheets are the way to go - I use Google Sheets now and it costs me nothing. But seriously, how do these apps get away with charging people who never agreed to pay in the first place? Did you ever try to get your money back from the app store or your bank? I'm wondering if reporting them to the Better Business Bureau would do any good, or if that's just a waste of time.

What finally made you realize it wasn't free? I used to download those apps without reading the fine print. A friend showed me her bank statement with random charges from a "premium trial" she never wanted. Now I just use a spreadsheet. Feels safer and it's actually free.
