Thought the whole 'work for stay' hostel thing was a total scam

Saw a post about it for a place in Lisbon and figured it was too good to be true. Ended up doing 15 hours a week of front desk work in exchange for a free bed for a whole month. My friend was like, 'you're gonna get ripped off,' but they actually stuck to the deal. Has anyone else tried this and had it work out, or did I just get lucky?

Never thought I'd say this but honestly that actually sounds decent and changed my mind about those deals.

Figured I'd get stuck cleaning toilets with a toothbrush or something. Like, they'd have me painting the whole building for a bunk bed next to the boiler room. Honestly shocked they just had you at the front desk and didn't make you hand-wash all the guest's socks. Guess you found the one honest place in the world, man.

Sounds a bit dramatic for a front desk job. Most places just want someone to check people in and answer the phone. You might be watching too many prison movies.
