That 12 hour bus ride I thought would save me $40 was a complete mistake
I took a Greyhound from Denver to Salt Lake City last summer because it was $55 versus a $95 flight. The bus broke down in Rawlins, Wyoming for 3 hours with no AC and we had to sit there in 90 degree heat. I got to Salt Lake at 2am instead of 6pm and had to pay $60 for a last minute hotel because no buses were running until morning. So I ended up spending more money and lost a whole day. Has anyone else fallen for the bus trap thinking you're being smart with money?

Did you ever have one of those road trip food poisoning moments where you just gotta question every life choice? Because I took a Greyhound from Chicago to Detroit once and some guy brought McDonald's on that reeked of old fryer grease and the whole bus smelled like a dumpster behind a fast food place for six hours. Then we hit a snowstorm near Gary, Indiana and had to pull over for an hour while the driver just sat there playing country music. Got to Detroit at 4am and my friend's car broke down trying to pick me up, so I ended up sleeping on a bus station bench. You really think you're saving money but you're just paying in misery.

Man I read somewhere that Greyhound has actually gotten worse over the last decade with their maintenance and bus conditions. Like a transportation blog did a breakdown of how they cut costs by running buses longer between cleanings and stuff. That McDonald's smell mixed with snowstorm anxiety sounds like a special kind of hell though. Did you ever make it up to Detroit again without that chain of disasters?
