Showerthought: From carrying heavy travel books to just using my phone

Honestly, I remember when you had to buy those thick guidebooks for every new place. Tbh, they took up so much space and were not cheap. Now, I rely on free apps on my phone for all my travel info. Ngl, it saves money and makes planning simple. For instance, I use city transport apps to find the cheapest ways to get around. This shift means I can put more cash towards actual fun stuff. Honestly, it's a huge win for keeping trips on budget.

Totally get what you mean... I had a whole shelf of those heavy books gathering dust. Remember trying to fold those huge maps back up on a windy street corner? What a pain. Now I just pull up a walking route instantly, and I love that the apps update with new spots or closed places so you're never lost with old info. It really does free up the budget for a nicer meal or an extra tour instead.

Yeah but what about when your phone dies or you have no signal? That free app isn't much help then. I still keep a small paper map as a backup for that exact reason.

But is saving a few bucks on a book really that big of a deal?
