Question about the 'always book hostels' advice after a bad night in Lisbon

I was in Lisbon last spring and booked a cheap hostel bed for 12 euros a night, but the room had 12 people and someone's alarm went off every hour from 2 AM. I switched to a private room in a guesthouse for 30 euros the next night and actually slept. Is paying a bit more for basic quiet ever the real budget move?

Totally get that. Wasn't a hostel in Prague basically a bunk bed in a hallway? Paid double for my own room the next day and felt human again.

I used to swear by hostels too, but a bad night's sleep ruins the next day of travel. Paying a bit more for a quiet room, like nancy3 said, actually saves money because you can enjoy the trip. It's a budget move if it means you're not too tired to function.

Right? @bailey.xena you nailed it - paying for quiet is actually a money hack because you're not dragging yourself through expensive coffee and skipped attractions the next day. That Prague story from nancy3 is exactly what I'm talking about, sometimes you gotta learn the hard way that sleep is part of the travel budget.
