PSA: My $14 hostel in Lisbon had a free breakfast that saved my whole trip budget
Two years back I booked a cheap hostel in Lisbon for 5 nights at $14 a night, mostly just happy it had a roof and a bed. The listing mentioned a free breakfast but I figured it would be stale bread and sad coffee, so I planned to eat out. First morning I walk into the kitchen and there's fresh rolls, cheese, ham, fruit, yogurt, and a giant pot of good coffee, all free. I ended up eating a huge breakfast there every single morning, which meant I only needed one real meal a day plus snacks. By the end of the week I'd saved around $60, which paid for my train to Sintra and a nice dinner. The funny part is I almost skipped it the first day because I thought it would be gross. Has anyone else had a hostel breakfast that was way better than expected, or am I just getting lucky with the cheap ones?
