I was dead set against hostel dorms for years... finally gave one a shot in Montreal

I always thought hostels were for college kids who wanted to party all night and get bed bugs. But I was stuck in Montreal for 3 nights and the cheapest motel was $140 a night. I booked a 6 bed female dorm for $38 a night just to try it. Honestly? I slept better than I do at home, mostly because everyone was super respectful about quiet hours. The common kitchen saved me like $50 on eating out too. Has anyone else changed their mind on something they swore they'd never do?

Whoa, I gotta push back a little on the bed bug thing. Most hostels these days have strict pest control protocols, especially in Canada. Ive stayed in maybe a dozen hostels over the years, and the only time I saw a bed bug was at a sketchy motel in the Midwest. That said, your experience in Montreal sounds solid. Quiet hours really do make or break a dorm, and a respectful group is like winning the lottery. Take this with a grain of salt, but I think you lucked out with that specific crew.

You're overthinking it @sam_harris68. Bed bugs don't care about rules.
