I used to think booking flights on Tuesday was the best deal, but a trip to Lisbon proved me wrong.
For years, I'd only search for flights on Tuesday mornings because that's what all the blogs said. Last fall, I was watching prices for a Lisbon trip for two weeks and the cheapest fare actually popped up on a Friday night, saving me about $180. It made me see that rigid rules don't always work with how airlines change prices now. What's a budget travel 'rule' you've found doesn't hold up anymore?

Oh come on, you guys are acting like flight deal hunting is some kind of high stakes game. I've been booking trips for years and honestly the Tuesday thing was just one trick in a big bag of tricks. Checking often is fine but who has time to sit there refreshing Expedia every day like it's a job? The real secret nobody wants to admit is that most of these 'rules' barely save you $20-$40 in the end. I still book whenever I feel like it and my wallet's fine. People make this way more complicated than it needs to be.

That Tuesday rule was never really a rule, more of an old trend people kept repeating. The real trick is just checking often, because airline pricing is so random now. I still find mid-week searches useful, but you have to be flexible with your dates above all else. Getting locked into one specific day to book will cost you more than it saves.
