Hot take: I thought those overnight bus rides in Europe were just for broke students

I took a FlixBus from Berlin to Amsterdam last month to save on a hotel, and I got a full night's sleep in a reclining seat. Now I'm torn because it saved me about 80 euros, but I felt pretty rough the next morning. Are overnight buses a legit travel hack or just a cheap trick that ruins your next day?

My buddy did a night bus from Paris to Barcelona and called it a budget coma. He saved a ton on travel and a bed, but was basically a zombie for two days after. It seems like the savings come with a real cost to your energy.

Forget the money for a second. How old are you? I tried those buses in my twenties and bounced back fine. Now that I'm in my thirties, one bad night wrecks me for days. The real question is whether your body can handle the recovery time, because that cheap ticket isn't so cheap if you lose a vacation day to being tired.
