Dropped $65 on a "skip the line" pass in Rome and still waited 2 hours
So last summer I was in Rome for 4 days and I figured I would be smart about the Vatican. I bought one of those skip the line passes online for like $65 thinking I was beating the system. Showed up at 8am, and the line for people with passes was somehow longer than the regular line. Turns out everyone and their mother buys that same pass, so there is no real skip happening. I stood there for 2 hours in the sun watching people who just walked up and paid the normal 20 euro ticket stroll right past me. The worst part is I could have booked a timed entry direct on the official site for way less if I had done 10 minutes of homework. Lesson learned the hard way, but now I want to know if anyone has actually found a legit skip the line trick somewhere, or is it all just a racket?
