Why does nobody talk about how expensive bulk spices can be if you don't watch yourself

I was at a warehouse store last month and grabbed a big jar of paprika without checking the price. Got to the register and it was 12 bucks. For paprika. I could have gotten a little packet at the dollar store for a fraction of that and it would have lasted just as long for my weekly chili. Anyone else get burned by grabbing a "deal" that wasn't really a deal?

TWELVE BUCKS for paprika? That is INSANE. I don't care how big the jar was, that's robbery. For that price you could have bought three of those little dollar store packets and had money left over for a soda. I always check the per ounce price on stuff like that, bulk stores are TRICKY that way. You figure you're saving money but they just slap a bigger number on it and call it a deal.

Anthony I swear I felt a little piece of my soul leave my body when I read that. Twelve bucks for paprika? That's like buying a sports car to drive to the mailbox. They probably put it in a fancy glass jar with a cork lid and acted like it was imported from a hidden spice castle in Spain or something. You know what that jar is really full of? Hopes and dreams of people who thought they were being thrifty. I bet you could season every meal for a month with three one dollar packets and still have change for a candy bar.
