Vent: That $40 'meal prep' cookbook I bought was completely useless

Swore I'd save money by prepping lunches for the week, so I grabbed this popular cookbook. Every single recipe called for ingredients like truffle oil or specialty cheeses that cost more than just eating out. Ended up donating it after one try - anyone else fall for those fake budget recipes?

Fake budget recipes" is the perfect way to put it. That cookbook sounds like it was written for people who think "saving money" means skipping the appetizer at a fancy restaurant. I bet the author's definition of "budget friendly" involves a personal chef.

The "personal chef" part killed me because honestly that's probably true. What page did the truffle oil recipe land on, like day one or did it at least wait until midweek?

Honestly day one is generous I bet it was page 3. Real budget cooking is like learning to make a decent lentil soup from scratch not pretending truffle oil is a pantry staple. I learned the hard way that those fancy cookbooks are more about aspirational living than actual meal planning for normal people. If you want real budget friendly tips go find a grandma on youtube who shows you how to stretch a pound of ground beef into three meals. That's the stuff that actually works not some influencer vibe about "elevating" your ramen with microgreens.
