Took me 30 years to figure out dried beans are worth the effort

Grew up on canned everything because that's what my mom did. Last month I finally tried soaking black beans overnight. Saved about $2 a pound and they tasted way better. Anyone else make the switch later in life?

Took me 30 years to figure out dried beans are worth the effort" - man, I feel that so hard. My mom's canned bean phase lasted until I moved out, and I didn't try dried until I was 35 and broke. I thought I was some kind of culinary genius for discovering that soaking beans overnight actually works. Spoiler alert: I burned the first batch so bad the smoke alarm went off and my neighbor called to ask if I was okay. But when you get it right, the texture is just SO much better, like actually creamy instead of mushy. I'm still bitter about all the money I wasted on canned beans over the years, but at least now I can pretend I'm a fancy chef instead of just a guy who finally read the instructions.
