TIL dried beans beat canned by a mile when you're broke in January
Money got tight after my hours dropped at the diner in Boise, so I grabbed a $1.29 bag of dried pinto beans instead of my usual 4 cans. Soaked them overnight, tossed them in the slow cooker with onion and a ham hock from the discount bin, and screwed up the first batch by way over salting. Dumped half, added potatoes to soak up the salt, and it stretched into 6 meals for under 5 bucks total. Anyone got a trick for getting the texture right without babysitting the pot all afternoon?
