That leftover rice hack my grandma swore by finally clicked

I used to throw out day old rice because it got dry and weird, but last month I tried her trick of frying it in a cast iron skillet with a splash of soy sauce and a beaten egg. Cost me maybe 50 cents for the egg and rice I already had, and it turned into a solid dinner in about 8 minutes. It saved me from ordering takeout three times that week. Anyone else got a simple trick from a family member that actually cuts the food bill?

Right? That's basically the same trick my dad used to pull except he'd throw in whatever random veggies were about to go bad. Felt like a game of fridge roulette but it never let us down lol.

My mom was the exact opposite. She would buy fresh stuff every week and throw out anything that wasn't perfect. I thought that was just how you were supposed to do it. But after I moved out and started paying my own grocery bills, I realized how much money she was wasting. Now I'm totally on your dad's team. A little wilted spinach or a soft bell pepper still has plenty of life in it if you cook it right.
